Johnny creates artwork that is both vibrant and inspirational. In most of his earlier work, his style had more of an impressionistic feel, while his current pieces focus on a more realistic approach. He focuses a lot of his work on Social Injustice by challenging the viewer to take a deeper look at the issues we face in America. "I wanted to force the viewer to have to look the subjects in the eye" by using oversized zoomed-in portrayals of their faces. He often does this by using actual newspaper clippings relating to their stories which also give a "layered effect." It also creates a tangible way to engage the viewer to connect to the subjects and their stories. He believes today's youth will most likely have never opened a physical newspaper, so his art has a lasting effect that connects the past to the present. In today's digital age, news travel so fast, so his style was also a way to further conversations and preserve their stories for future generations. "I think in today's climate, artists need to lead the way in challenging and questioning these types of issues." His goal was to promote equality and foster inclusion for all to feel a sense of belonging while questing social norms.
